TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Police say 58-year-old Debra Newton died of injuries she suffered during an accident on Sunday.
Sgt. Chris Widmer with Tucson Police tells KGUN9 that just before 10 a.m., a vehicle flew into a midtown 7-Eleven near Speedway and Columbus.
According to Widmer, 52-year old Hassan Madex was heading east on Speedway when he slammed into the front of a sedan, eventually plowing into the gas station store front and running over a woman who was in the store at the time.
Emergency crews took Newton to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, but she later died as a result of her unjruies.
Police say the driver of the van may have ran a red light.
"He hit my car. I thought he was just pulling in because we'd been in a collision and I saw him fly into that building. It was just collision and into the store," Marni Russel, whose car was hit by the van, said.
"I was just thankful my son wasn't in the car," Russel continued.
Madex has been cited on one count of causing serious injury or death by a moving violation.
