TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A 3-year-old boy was discovered unconscious at the bottom of a pool during the family's Fourth of July celebration.
The family tells Nine On Your Side that the boy, Jorge, was sipping on juice one second. The next: He's face down in the pool.
His parents and cousin took their eyes off of the pool just long enough to move a table.
When 16-year-old Alfredo Cesar turned around, he was the first to see Jorge sinking.
"I just went in and I grabbed him, because I saw that he was purple," Cesar said. "I didn't know what to do, so I handed him to my uncle. That's when he gave him CPR."
"I was scared," said little Jorge's father, Jorge Soto. "I didn't want to lose him right there in my arms."
Soto performed CPR on his son for several minutes before the boy regained consciousness. Paramedics arrived shortly after.
Jorge is expected to be released from the hospital Saturday.
Bottom line: This can happen to any family. Tucson Fire Department and Nine On Your Side would like to remind everyone of the ABCs of pool safety: Adult supervision; barriers; and classes, CPR for adults and swim lessons for children.
