PRESCOTT, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - A memorial has sprung up and keeps growing outside of Prescott's Fire Station No. 7.
Flowers, American flags and a Tucson fire baseball cap line the fence outside home of the Granite Mountain Hotshots.
Tucson Fire Department Captain Kris Blume was on vacation in Colorado when he learned about the tragedy on Yarnell hill. He stopped in Prescott on his way home to honor the fallen firefighters.
"I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't in tears," Blume said. "This is horrible. Firefighters represent everything that is good with society. We put it all on the line to save people that will probably never get a thank you for."
The 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshot crew didn't just put their lives on the line; they made the ultimate sacrifice
"Nobody knows what the sacrifice is about until you put your own life up as collateral to save somebody else's"
And that is why before he returns to putting his life on the line, Blume said the least he could do is leave a small token of solidarity.
