TUSD board approves new superintendent's contract
TUSD appointed H.T. Sanchez as its new superintendent. Sanchez comes from the Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, TX and has worked in public education for 15 years.
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Tucson Unified School District Governing Board approved a three-year contract for its new superintendent H.T. Sanchez.
The board approved the contract, which includes a $210,000 annual base salary, during a special meeting Friday night.
His contract begins July 1, 2013 and ends June 30, 2016. Sanchez was named the sole finalist from a national search that attracted more than 60 applicants. Sanchez is taking over for John Pedicone, whose resignation is effective June 30.
Sanchez comes to Tucson from Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, Texas where he served as interim superintendent, deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent since 2010.
Sanchez has until Saturday at 5 p.m. to accept the contract.
His contract includes expense allowances of $25,000 and relocation expenses of $8,000.
The board voted unanimously in favor of the contract.
