TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The horror of that night one year ago captured in a 911 call. The pain still fresh in the minds of those who loved Genna Ayup.
"She's not coming home, she's not coming back," said Genna's mother Toni Solheid, as she choked back tears.
"A day doesn't go by that I wish I could trade places with her," Eileen Majeski, Genna's aunt, said. "She had so much to live for."
Genna was gone at 27-years-old. Friends and family came together to cry, to hug and show Genna they remember her smile, her laugh and her spirit.
"I just miss her so much," said Solheid.
But you can't remember Genna without remembering the way she died.
"She lost her life by someone she knew and trusted," said Majeski.
Dead at the hands of her boyfriend Ronald Corbin Jr. One year later, he's never spoken.
"No one's ever apologize for it," said Majeski.
"His side of the story, knowing what happened that night would help us get through everyday without her," said Sarah Solheid, Genna's sister.
So today, 9OYS tried again. Corbin wasn't home. But his family broke their silence with an obituary in part writing, "you live in our hearts."
"It hurts us," said S. Solheid. "It's like a slap in the face."
Empty words for Genna's family, who just want an apology, while Genan now forever sleeps with the angels.
Today the family established the Justice for Genna Foundation. Funds will go to help support Genna's 3-year-old son and other children impacted by losing a parent to violent crime.
It is a 501(3)(c) tax deductible foundation. An account has been opened at BBVA Compass Bank in the name of the Foundation. Anyone wishing to donate can do one of three things:
1. Every time one of our supporters opens a new BBVA Compass Checking Account that is associated with our organization's program, BBVA Compass will deposit an initial royalty payment of $50 directly into the JFG account.
2. The JFG Foundation would earn a royalty equal to 0.25% of the purchase amount when your supporters use their BBVA Compass Visa Check Card (tied to their new or existing account) for a qualifying transaction.
3. Supporters can make donations online directly to the recently opened JFG Foundation account.
A link to the foundation's website will be posted on kgun9.com as soon as it goes live.
