ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Medical marijuana dispensaries help patients get the treatment they need, but some Oro Valley residents say they are not happy about the new dispensary opening Tuesday.
Catalina Hills Care, located in the Rancho Vistoso Plaza at First Ave. and Tangerine Road, is the first pot shop to open in Oro Valley.
This new dispensary will have a marijuna expert on staff to help patients select the right strain of the drug for their medical needs.
Arizona Department of Health Services awarded the license to open the clinic just last week. Still, some nearby residents like Laura Stafford say they're worried about this pot shop opening in their backyard.
"I worry about the type of people that may come," Stafford said. "It would just make me uncomfortable."
The state requires marijuana dispensaries to have strict security measures in place, including multiple surveillance cameras inside and outside the store.
Catalina Hill Cares is the sixth pot shop to open in the Tucson area, according to the Arizona Medical Marijuana Community's website.
"I don't think that there would be enough patients here that would need them," Tanya Connolly said. "I think there's enough already."
Arizona voters legalized medical marijuana in 2010.
