TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Deputies need the public's help identifying two men in connection with a stolen vehicle and attempted robbery.
Deputies responded to the Safeway located at 4752 East Sunrise Drive just after 6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27 after receiving a call about an attempted robbery, according to Deputy Tracy Suitt with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Suitt tells KGUN9 that an 89-year-old woman was walking to her car after shopping when a man approached her and asked for money.
When the woman refused to give the man money, he reached for her purse, and in doing so, knocked the woman down, according to Suitt.
The woman sustained a head injury as a result of the attack, Suitt said.
The woman told deputies the man had a light complexion and was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses, according to Suitt.
Deputies later learned that the man drove away in a car that had been reported stolen, Suitt said.
Deputies located the vehicle outside of a convenience store and surveillance video showed two men associated with the vehicle, according to Suitt.
Suitt says one of the men matched the woman's description.
The man appears to be in his early twenties and in the video he was wearing a grey, hooded sweatshirt with a black shirt underneath. He was also wearing a black hat.
The second man appears to me a white man in his early twenties. He was wearing a black and grey flannel shirt with a red and white baseball cap.
Detectives from the Sheriff's Department's Robbery Assault Unit are investigating this incident and are asking for help from the community to identify and locate the two men.
