TUSD appoints Sanchez as new superintendent
TUSD's has named Dr. H.T. Sanchez as a finalist for the superintendent position. Sanchez is the interim superintendent at Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, TX and has worked in public education for 15 years.
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Tucson Unified School District appointed Dr. H.T. Sanchez as the next superintendent in a meeting Tuesday night.
Officials with TUSD tell KGUN9 the board voted 4-1 to name Sanchez as superintendent, to succeed John Pedicone, who announced his resignation in March.
Board Member Mark Stegeman voted no.
TUSD held a national search for the position over the last two months. More than 65 people applied but Sanchez was the only finalist for the position.
Sanchez comes to TUSD from Ector County Independent School District, based in Odessa, Texas where he has worked since 2010.
He has worked in public education in Texas for 15 years.
His contract has not yet been finalized and the board will approve it at a later date.
Pedicone will continue to lead the district in an interim capacity until Sanchez arrives.
