Wildfire forcing evacuations near Prescott

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - A wind-whipped wildfire in northern Arizona is forcing the evacuations of some homeowners west of Prescott.
Yavapai County authorities say the fire began midday Tuesday near the Doce Pit about eight miles northwest of Prescott.
Winds gusting to 22 mph pushed the flames across a state highway. The fire reported at 20 acres quickly grew to 500 acres by early Tuesday afternoon.
That triggered mandatory evacuations for homeowners in the Granite Basin area and people in the Alto Pit Recreation Area.
It isn't immediately clear how many people have been evacuated and authorities didn't know how the fire started.
U.S. Forest Service officials say one air tanker, five engines and two crews are battling the fire with additional crews on the way.
