Bear sighted around Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a 150-pound bear has been sighted around Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista.
Arizona Game and Fish Department officials say military police got the bear out the area without incident.
Food and food odors attract bears.
Failure to secure all food and garbage outside a home after a first warning that it's attracting bears can result in a citation under a Cochise County ordinance.
Penalties for the first class misdemeanor can include up to a $2,500 fine, six months in jail and three months' probation.
Game and Fish officials say they fielded 100 nuisance bear calls between July and October 2012 because habitat impacts caused by a 2011 wildfire left bears in the Huachuca Mountains little to eat.
The bears resorted to foraging for food in residential areas.
