Army Staff Sgt. arrested for sexually assaulting step daughters
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Police arrested a 28-year-old Army Staff Sgt. for sexually assaulting his two juvenile stepdaughters.
Cpl. Scott Borgstadt with Sierra Vista Police tells KGUN9 that Michael Sanchez of Sierra Vista was arrested and charged with two counts of continual sexual abuse of a child.
Borgstadt says police received a report on Monday that two young girls were molested by their stepfather.
During the investigation, police determined that Sanchez had sexually assaulted the girls multiple times over the past five years.
Borgstadt says many of the assault incidents happened in Sierra Vista but some may have happened on Fort Huachuca, and on other military bases in the country.
Officials with Fort Huachuca confirm Sanchez was a Staff Sgt. assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence.
He was assigned to Fort Huachuca in June, 2012 and joined the Army in November, 2004.
Sierra Vista police is working with the Army Criminal Investigation Division during this ongoing investigation.
Officials with Fort Huachuca say the Army will wait for police to finish their investigation and then make a determination on any consequences after that.
Sanchez was booked into the Cochise County Jail and is being held without bond.
