ACLU opens Tucson office as part border program

CREATED Jun. 13, 2013

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union says it's opening a Tucson office and assigning full-time staff lawyers to work in the southern Arizona city and San Diego to investigate, document and litigate civil and human rights cases along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Executive Director Alessandra Soler of ACLU of Arizona says the new initiative is intended to make border security agents more accountable to civil rights laws.

There already are similar ACLU offices in New Mexico and Texas.
