TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Pima County Sheriff's Deputies say a gunman who killed a woman driving a car earlier this month has been extradited back to Tucson and officially charged.
Deputies tell KGUN9 Stephen Malone was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail after police found him in Los Angeles.
He was charged with domestic violence/murder in the first degree, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of domestic violence/endangerment and discharging a firearm at a structure all in connection with a shooting that killed a 25-year-old woman.
Deputies say he fled to Los Angeles after the shooting and was located by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Los Angeles Police Department.
Deputies say they responded to the 4900 block of East Butterweed Drive for reports of shots fired around 8:40 p.m. June 11.
When deputies arrived, they located 25-year-old Augustina Soto dead with obvious signs of trauma in the driver's seat of a vehicle.
Deputies confirm that Malone and Soto were in a relationship and had three children together.
Two of the children, ages four and five, were in the backseat of the car when Soto was shot.
The children were not injured.
"Second shot I knew immediately what it was. I got in the house [and] told my girlfriend to get down and immediately called 911," a nearby neighbor who witnessed the shooting told 9OYS.
A female passenger in the vehicle with Soto suffered non-life threatening injuries.
