TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Lines of people, most total strangers. Dads who brought their little boys and families bringing nieces and nephews, all to show their love for Jacob Mockbee.

"The kids wanted to come and draw a card to someone they don't even know but it's fun for them and special for them," said Tucsonan Alisa Celentano.

Hundreds of people turned out Tuesday night to sign birthday cards for the teen.

Mockbee turns 16 on June 16th and his family wants him to have 1,600 birthday cards to open.

Nine On Your Side decided to step in, with a card campaign set up at Beyond Bread on Speedway Boulevard and Wilmot Road.

Walgreens donated hundred of cards and a steady stream of people stopped by with one mission.

Steady little hands write the message: "Happy Birthday Jacob."

"So we're all for you Jacob and we're all talking about you and we love you," said Sandy Lein.

By the end of the afternoon, we had enough cards to surprise Jacob's mom Stacie.

"He's going to be overwhelmed," she said. "He's so appreciative. He's gonna be so pleased."
