Crews battle two east side fires in one night
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Crews with Tucson Fire battled two separate fires Tuesday night on the east side.
Capt. Barrett Baker with TFD tells KGUN9 that the first fire happened in a garage in the 9000 block of east Cottontail Lane.
A man working in the garage was soldering a copper pipe when the insulation around the pipe caught fire.
The man was able to get out safely and move vehicles out of the garage before they caught fire.
The garage was detached from the home, and the first crew on scene learned that the fire was inside the wall of the garage.
There was minor charring in the roof area but otherwise no damage. No one was injured.
The second fire happened at Star Glass Company in the 1400 block of south Kolb Road.
The first crew saw that a dumpster in the back was burning and flames were spreading to a wall.
They had to force entry into the building to make sure the flames didn't spread inside but did not see anything once inside.
No one was hurt and the cause is still under investigation.
It took eight units and 21 firefighters in each incident to get the fires under control.
