Nearly 30 targeted in Yavapai-Apache Nation sweep
CREATED Jun. 3, 2013
PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say 22 people have been arrested after a federal, tribal and state investigation into drug trafficking and related violent crime on and near the Yavapai-Apache Nation.
They say five other suspects are facing tribal criminal charges and two are facing state charges.
Authorities said Monday that almost all of the people charged were taken into custody over the past several days or were already in custody on other charges.
Three remain fugitives.
Tribal officials say methamphetamine has plagued the Yavapai-Apache Nation for years and authorities have been trying to crack down on traffickers.
The FBI's Northern Arizona Safe Streets Task Force, the Yavapai County Drug Task Force and the Yavapai-Apache Nation Tribal Police Department led the coordinated enforcement action.
