TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A woman and her dog are dead after being hit by a vehicle Friday night.

The accident occurred in the 3100 block of east Drexel Road just after 8:00 p.m. Friday, according to Deputy Jesus Banuelos with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Emergency medical personnel transported the woman, 61-year-old Alexis Virginia Williams, to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead, Banuelos said.

Banuelos also tells KGUN9 that Williams was walking her dog at the time of the accident. The dog was struck during the accident and pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, deputies determined that the driver was headed westbound on Drexel Road and struck Williams just east of the intersection of Drexel Road and Bonney Road, Banuelos said.

There is no crosswalk at the intersection and the driver was not speeding at the time of the accident, according to Banuelos. The driver did not appear to be impaired and stayed on scene to assist with the investigation.
