Remains of 5 people found hidden in Ariz. desert
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities in southern Arizona are investigating the deaths of five people whose remains were found concealed in the desert west of Tucson.
A Pima County medical examiner says the remains found earlier this week by Border Patrol agents won't be examined until Tuesday, but Dr. Greg Hess says law enforcement officials said the remains are skeletal and were found covered partially with rocks and possibly a tarp or bag.
Hess says the remains were found near Sells on the Tohono O'odham Reservation. Tribal police did not immediately return a call for comment, and FBI spokesman Manuel Johnson declined to comment.
The area is frequently used by smugglers and there are frequently discoveries of remains of immigrants who die while crossing the desert.
