TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -- We're learning more about the family of a 3 month old killed last week. They tell us there's another side to this story and *they are demanding an investigation into the case.
New information is shedding more light on the case. Izayah Garcia had been under CPS care and placed with a relative -- an aunt of the father. Sandra Islas would not go on camera, but she did let us into her home, where she cared for Izayah.
Islas said she's disabled so her daughter, Candice Ramirez, stepped into to help and both had been approved to care for Izayah by CPS.
Ramirez appeared on KGUN9's Morning Blend a few times as a volunteer for a non-profit organization. She has children of her own. Her boyfriend, 29-year-old Genaro Urbina, is charged with killing the boy.
Shocking news to a close friend. Delmay Olguin said "(Ramirez and Urbina) are very good with their children. Genaro is always been helpful and supportive of Candice all the things she's donated."
Ramirez says Urbina did not live in the home, but he was there before Ramirez made the 9-1-1 call.
Sgt. Chris Widmer of the Tucson Police Department said, "We know the injuries occurred then -- and the baby had head trauma and trauma to the body as well."|
But both women claim an innocent man is sitting in jail, which they said explains why the father had this reaction to his son's death. "I'm not angry," he told KGUN9 during a weekend carwash to raise money for funeral expenses, "I just can't believe it happened."
Both women said Izayah was in the care of others as well and they said they want police to investigate the case further. Ramirez says CPS took her children away, as they typically do during an investigation, and she's trying to get them back.
KGUN9 will keep you updated on the developments of the tragic death of this baby boy.
