TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A woman died after being thrown from her vehicle following a traffic accident on the southeast side Saturday.
Deputies responded to the 4900 block of south Swan Road, near Irvington Road, after they received a call about a car accident at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Deputy Jesus Banuelos with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Once on scene, deputies noticed that a white, Mazda pickup truck had overturned and that a woman had been thrown from the vehicle, Banuelos said.
Banuelos tells KGUN9 that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff's investigators responded to the scene and determined that the woman had been speeding while driving eastbound on Irvington Road, according to Banuelos.
She was driving too fast to successfully make a turn and subsequently drove into a power pole. Upon hitting the power pole, the vehicle rolled to it's side and the woman was thrown from the vehicle, Banuelos said.
Banuelos says that prior to the accident, a witness notified the Arizona Department of Public Safety after noticing that the woman was driving recklessly on westbound I-10.
