Yuma man faces murder charge in officer's death

CREATED May. 15, 2013

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - A Yuma tanker truck driver arrested in connection with a crash that killed a state Department of Public Safety officer now faces a murder charge.
Jorge Espinoza, 33, originally was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in the May 6 accident, but the Yuma Sun ( ) reports that he was since been charged with second-degree murder.
Espinoza also faces 13 counts of endangerment and 5 counts of criminal damage.
Defense lawyer Michael Donovan declined comment Wednesday.
Officer Tim Huffman was killed when a truck driven by Espinoza slammed into responders' vehicles at an accident scene on Interstate 8.
Authorities have said it wasn't clear why Espinoza didn't react to a DPS car's flashing lights and the waving of a DPS officer to signal that a lane was closed.
