Tucson area posts some of the country's lowest gas prices
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - If you're trying to escape the heat with a road trip, now's the time to do it.
According to Gasbuddy.com, gas prices in Tucson are among the cheapest in the country.
Tuesday, the lowest prices in Tucson were on the northwest side with an ARCO station at Thornydale and Orange Grove selling regular unleaded for 2.99 a gallon. It was even cheaper at the Costco on Thornydale at 2.89 per gallon.
Last year at this time, gas averaged 3.67 per gallon making a trip from Tucson to Phoenix and back about five dollars cheaper today.
As a comparison to southern Arizona prices, drivers in downtown Chicago are paying nearly $4.70 per gallon.
