TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - He was a school bus driver who professed his love for a teenaged girl and went with her to Mexico. Now she's back and he's going to prison.
Going to prison for six years---that the price for Todd Hezlitt. He asked for mercy and forgiveness. It doesn't look like he got either.
Brooke White and her family listened as Todd Hezlitt asked the judge for a lighter sentence and asked the family to forgive him.
He looked towards the White family as he said, "I don't expect you to accept my apology anytime soon. That's up to you guys but I just ask for your forgiveness at some point."
The family is not talking now about why Hezlitt and Brooke White ran to Hermosillo Mexico and spent about two months there before she sent a Facebook message saying she wanted to come home. The teenager sometimes shook her head when Hezlitt's lawyer claimed the trip to Mexico was her idea.
The prosecutor said he spoke for the family when he argued the fear and uncertainty they felt when Hezlitt and the girl were in Mexico argued for the toughest sentence possible.
In the end, the Judge ordered about half what they law would have allowed: Six years in state prison.
