Lawmakers to see cut in daily pay this week

CREATED May. 13, 2013

PHOENIX (AP) - Members of the state Legislature will see their pay cut this week as the session passes its 120th day and automatic cuts in their daily per diem payments are triggered.
The kick in the wallet is just another reminder to lawmakers that it's time to go home. Many years they're done with their work by now but a stalemate over Gov. Jan Brewer's proposal to expand Medicaid to an additional 300,000 poor Arizonans has split the Republican majority.
The Legislature cut its work week to three days two weeks ago because they're essentially out of work other than the budget.
Lawmakers earn $24,000 a year and receive daily expense pay of $35 if they're from Maricopa County and $60 otherwise.
That daily rate drops to $10 and $20 on Tuesday.
