TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - It is something you hear about all the time, but very rarely do you see it with your owns eyes, or better yet, catch it on camera. That's exactly what happened.
Thursday, while covering an entirely different story about the border in Downtown Nogales, our cameras caught a casual crosser jumping the border fence, sliding down and then very nonchalantly walking off.
About 20 minutes go by before Border Agents apprehend the man.
"This is border life. This is what happens at the border," Oscar Humberto Stevens, a freelance photographer in Mexico and Southern Arizona told 9OYS.
"This is happening every day. It happens in Naco. It happens in Nogales. It happens in Tijuana."
Fully aware of the timeline, Border Patrol representatives say agents acted exactly as they should have.
"Does it concern you that no one caught him right away?" Nine On Your Side's Cory Marshall asked BP Agent Jason Rheinfrank.
"Well, I mean you got to take into account that we did have eyes on the situation. We knew what was going on," Rheinfrank said.
"As Border Patrol agents you have to understand that it's not uncommon to get assaulted. I don't mean necessarily people throwing fists at as or shooting at us necessarily but the most common thing we see are rocks."
Agents admit, the casual crossings to happen all the time.
As for the mystery jumper, agents say he has been processed.
