Electrical malfunction causes fire
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Northwest Fire District responded to an electrical fire at Honeybaked Ham store on Tuesday morning.
Capt. Adam Goldberg tells KGUN9 that an alarm went off inside the Honeybaked Ham located at 7090 North Oracle Road at 5:59 a.m.
Crews arrived and found water coming from the front door from the automatic sprinkler systems that had been activated and smoke coming from the entry way.
Pima County Sheriff's Department also responded and evacuated several construction workers working on a suite next door to business.
Crews found a fire behind a large refrigerator unit. The fire was kept in check by the activated sprinkler system and crews extinguished the remaining hot spots.
Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be an electrical malfunction related to the refrigerator unit.
Damages including the refrigerator are estimated around $20,000, said Goldberg.
The store will remain closed until repairs to electrical issues can be made; clean-up completed as well as a health department inspection which is a standard procedure anytime there is a fire involving a food store or restaurant.
