PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Pictures from California show wildfires raging on, devouring thousands of acres and forcing evacuations. Southeastern Arizona firefighters don’t want those images to distract you because there's plenty of fire danger is in your backyard.
Rural/Metro Fire Department said there are plenty of spots around the Tucson area ready to catch fire, though on a smaller scale. That includes anywhere there are plants, and particularly buffelgrass areas, fields and washes.
“We've had a lot of very windy days. We've had a lot of red flag days already,” said Capt. Grant Cesarek. “You get that small fire that's going to be wind driven, and the firefighters are going to have to work very fast.”
If you live along a wash or have trees and plants, remember the 30-feet rule. Keep at least that much space clear around your home to help keep fire away.
