TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - With Congress on recess this week, Congressman Ron Barber is keeping busy by touring small businesses throughout Southern Arizona.
Barber tells 9 On Your Side he plans to use what he hears from owners and employees to help him introduce legislation to help small businesses grow, such as making it easier for them to get loans.
This morning Barber will meet with members of the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association.
While Barber sees some businesses growing, he says others are feeling the impact of automatic federal spending cuts.
"Those that are in part funded by federal contracts to do research and development, in the high-tech field for example, they're beginning to feel the pinch," Barber said, "because of the irresponsible decision that have been made in Washington around the sequestration."
In the afternoon, Barber will be in Nogales to talk with groups that import and distribute produce from Mexico. His weeklong tour ends Friday in Sierra Vista.
