WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) - Police say they shot a man twice in the arm Monday after he pulled out a gun in a suburban Salt Lake City police station lobby and pointed it at an officer and a records clerk.
West Valley City Police Sgt. Jason Hauer says 39-year-old James Ramsey Kammeyer entered the lobby around 8:30 a.m. and asked an officer to come out from behind a partition.
When several officers came to help, Kammeyer brandished a gun, and one officer fired multiple rounds, hitting Kammeyer twice.
Hauer says Kammeyer is expected to be released from the hospital later Monday. Police are preparing to charge him with multiple felonies.
Hauer says Kammeyer told officers in December he wanted police to shoot him because he was a registered sex offender and his wife was taking his kids. He pleaded guilty in 1999 to felony child sex abuse.
