Young girl reunited with family after night alone in wilderness
PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Search and rescue crews found a 7-year-old girl Sunday morning after she went missing from her family on a camping trip.
Tamra Ingersoll with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office tells KGUN9 that Search and Rescue deputies responded to a wilderness area near Red Rock after a young girl's family reported her missing.
The family told deputies the girl went out for a quad ride shortly before sunset and did not return to the campsite.
An air and ground search was conducted for the girl near the campsite. The Pima County Air Unit DPS Ranger and members of the U.S. Border Patrol Borstar Unit assisted the PCSO Search and Rescue team.
The girl's quad was located about seven miles from the family's campsite, but the girl was not there.
At about 2:00 a.m. Sunday, searchers calling out her name heard a response. She was found about four miles from where the quad was abandoned.
Authorities say she had cactus in her legs and was cold and thirsty but otherwise unharmed.
She was reunited with her family. She had been missing a total of eight hours.
