TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A woman who was taken to the hospital in critical condition following a traffic accident Sunday morning has died.
On Sunday, Deputy Tracy Suitt with the Pima County Sheriff's Department told KGUN9 that deputies responded to Mission Road and Irvington Road after a single-vehicle collision occurred just before 7:30 a.m.
Once on scene, deputies transported 71-year-old Minnie Richardson to the hospital in critical condition.
Tuesday, Deputy Tom Peine with PCSD told KGUN9 that Richardson died as a result of the accident.
During the investigation, deputies learned that an off-duty paramedic had been following Richardson's passenger car and watched as she drove through two red lights at Midvale Road and Mission Road, Peine said.
Peine says Richardson then hit and bounced off the northern curb, ran over a bus stop sign and eventually hit and broke through a guardrail, as seen in the photograph.
At this time, deputies believe medical issues might have caused the crash. Responding crews did not notice any obvious signs of alcohol related impairment, but the investigation continues, according to Peine.
KGUN 9 On Your Side will have more on this as soon as new information becomes available.
