PINAL COUNTY, Ariz (KGUN9-TV) - Deputies arrested a 22-year-old man after finding marijuana in his car in a compartment near his 12-day-old child.

Tamra Ingersoll with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office tells KGUN9  that a deputy observed a 2007 Cadillac Escalade with excessively dark window tint on Interstate 10 near milepost 200.

The deputy radioed in the license plate and learned that the Escalade had no insurance.

Ingersoll says the deputy pulled over the SUV and spoke with a husband and wife traveling with their 12-day-old child. They told the deputy they were headed from Tucson to Phoenix.

Ingersoll says the deputy though the driver was acting suspicious so he went back to his vehicle and deployed his K-9 partner.

The K-9 found a secret compartment near the newborn baby with 15 pounds of marijuana, valued at $10,000, says Ingersoll.

The driver, Alejandro Ortiz was arrested and now faces charges of Possession of Marijuana and Transportation of Marijuana.

Ingersoll said Ortiz's wife was released with her baby as she could not be tied to the marijuana.
