SAHUARITA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Rural/Metro Fire Department's new fire station is officially open and will house nine firefighters and paramedics.
Capt. Grant Cesarek with Rural/Metro tells KGUN9 that the 9,000 square-foot building is located at 765 W. Via Rancho Sahuarita and was completed without any disruption to emergency services.
Because the firefighters and paramedics work in 24-hour shifts, Station 79 includes a kitchen, a large great room and dorm-room style bedrooms.
This station also includes a state of the art exhaust removal system that will protect the health of the firefighters from diesel exhaust.
Rick Huch with Seaver Franks Architecture worked with a team to make the exterior visually appealing as well.
Station 79 is the first of two new stations in Sahuarita. Cesarek says the station is always open for a tour, and residents in the community can stop by to check it out.
