PHOENIX (AP) - A shooting involving an off-duty police officer outside a northwest Phoenix night club has left a suspect dead and another critically injured.
Police spokesman Tommy Thompson says the shooting occurred about 4 a.m. Saturday.
He says the 43-year-old officer was providing security when the suspects were allegedly spotted taking a refrigerator from his pickup truck.
On seeing the officer and two club employees, the suspects hopped in their vehicle and began pointing guns at them.
Thompson says that the officer opened fire as the men continued to point their weapons and refused commands to drop them. One of the club employees also fired a personal gun.
The shooting left the suspect driver 24-year-old Tomas G. Ramirez Gonzalez dead, and a 28-year-old suspect critically wounded. No one else was hurt.
Police say a 19-year-old male suspect was arrested on a charge of murder during commission of a crime.
