TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Deputies have re-opened Bear Canyon Road after Tucson Electric Power technicians worked Saturday morning to repair a power pole that was damaged during a collision Friday night.
Pima County deputies responded to an area near Bear Canyon Road and Snyder Road at around 10:45 p.m. Friday after reports of a single-vehicle accident, according to Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Once on scene, deputies from the Rincon District discovered that a Ford Mustang had crashed into a power pole on Bear Canyon Road, just south of Snyder Road, Peine said.
The impact of the collision caused the power pole to snap near the base, but the cables held the post in place, according to Peine.
A resident in the area witnessed the driver of the vehicle walking away from the crash site, but deputies have not yet located the driver, Peine said.
Deputies closed roadways in both directions on Bear Canyon Road because the unstable power pole created a safety hazard.
Tucson Electric Power technicians responded to the scene shortly after the collision to repair the power pole.
Peine tells KGUN9 that a power outage is expected to last until 12:00 p.m. Saturday while TEP crews work to repair the power pole.
