Heavy winds spread apartment fire
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Firefighters responded to an east side apartment complex Wednesday after heavy winds cause three apartments to catch on fire.
Capt. Barrett Baker with Tucson Fire tells KGUN9 that crews were sent to the 3200 block of South Pantano Road at about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Units arrived within five minutes and entered the first apartment with hose lines to try and protect the living area.
Heavy winds outside blew the fire from the back of the apartment to the unit to the east and the quickly to a third unit before crews could stop it from spreading further.
A total of seven people were displaced and two cats.
There were no injuries to residents or firefighters and Red Cross is assisting one of the families.
The cause was improperly disposed of smoking material in a plastic trash container.
