BB gun burglaries plague shopping plaza

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - They wonder every morning, if they're been robbed overnight.
We're talking about a cluster of shops at the corner of Speedway and Kolb where burglars with BB guns have been shooting their way in.
They're more of a burglar tool than a weapon. A little pop and they're through the glass and grabbing whatever's handy.
That been the story for a lot of the stores on the southwest corner of Speedway and Kolb.
Burglars started sending rocks through the windows maybe six weeks ago. Now they're a little more sophisticated.
Surveillance video shows the burglar casing the strip mall then using a BB Gun to give the window a little pop.
From there it was easy to get through the glass and rob the place, in this case a martial arts studio--Success Martial Arts.
Master James Pumarejo says, "All of them have been the middle of the night so it doesn't really affect the business during the daytime but still to come in and find that it pretty disheartening for sure.
KGUN9 reporter Craig Smith asked: "Martial Arts Studio---would you be inclined to use what you know if you met one of these guys?"
Pumarejo: "If the police would just leave me ten minutes alone with them I don't think they'd need to go to jail or anything."
There have been at least five break ins at the plaza at Speedway and Kolb but the BB Gun idea is hardly original.
They've helped burglars break in in Dearborn, Michigan, Chicago, Seattle and probably plenty of other spots.
At Smoke 4 Less, Travis Harvey has not been hit yet, but he's worried he will be.
Craig Smith asked him: "If somehow I could stand this guy in front of you, what would you say to him?"
Harvey: "Honestly there really ain't much words gonna be said. I'm a southern boy, it's kind of a woodshed time, so...."
Police have the video of this BB Gun burglar now so business people hope that will take him off the street.
The business people we talked to range from impatient with the police, to pretty understanding of how stretched they are by all the demands on them.
