TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Pima County Supervisors Sharon Bronson and Richard Elías hosted a press conference today to announce the County's sponsorship of the free prescription discount card program, Coast2CoastRx.
It's a comprehensive program that can help save you thousands of dollars on prescriptions and additional health services like dental, vision and hearing which are sometimes not covered under typical health insurance coverage. The pharmacies are paying for it to reel in new customers.
"Primarily the uninsured are who are going to use this, as well as insurance if they don't have a particular drug covered under their health plans," said Martin Dettelbach, the Chief Marketing Officer for Coast2CoastRx.
The card and its benefits are available to everyone. There are no restrictions on age, health status or income. All you have to provide is a telephone number, but no additional personal information is required.
The program will be paying Pima County a $1.25 royalty per filled prescription.
But not everyone likes the idea. Deborah Van Sant, owner of The Medicine Shoppe says there are better discount cards out there, and many pharmacists can give you a better deal.
9OYS's Alexis Fernandez asked: Does it benefit pharmacies like yourself?
"I haven't seen that it does, we have to pay the discount card a fee to process and they usually subtract us what our usual and customary is," she responded.
You can pick up a card from locations around the county or download it here.
