TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - An Oro Valley man is finally in custody after a nearly two hour ordeal in which the man barricaded himself inside a home after several family members called police to report that he had assaulted them.
Oro Valley police responded to the 600 block of east Strada Patania at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday after a call about a family fight, according to Lt. Kara Riley with the Oro Valley Police Department.
Once on scene, officers were met by several family members who claimed that 34-year-old Angel Ruperto Canava had assaulted them, Riley said.
Riley tells KGUN9 that Canava initially stepped out of the residence, but retreated back into the home and barricaded himself inside for almost two hours.
Canava refused to come out and threatened to hurt officers, according to Riley.
Pima Regional SWAT and negotiators responded to assist Oro Valley police.
A short time later, Canava surrendered and was arrested for multiple domestic violence charges without further incident, Riley said.
