Northwest Fire battles mobile home fire
PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Firefighters with Northwest Fire District responded to a mobile home fire Thursday.
Capt. Adam Goldberg tells KGUN9 that crews responded to 4725 N. Camino Aire Fresco near Wetmore and Flowing Wells.
Crews found an older model single wide mobile home about 35 percent involved with fire.
Crews had difficulty assessing parts of the back of the trailer where the started, because electric lines were damaged and still energized.
Firefighters became concerned that the power lines would fail and drop down onto the trailer.
Tucson Electric Power crews were able to de-energize the lines and the remaining hot spots were extinguished.
The 78-year-old homeowner was not injured during the fire, and was able to escape with help from his neighbors.
Investigators have determined the fire was accidental and started when the homeowner was preparing a recreational fire outside his trailer.
The man failed to close the lid on the lighter and the lighter was accidentally dropped with an active flame which started the fire close to the trailer.
The Red Cross responded to help the man with housing.
