PHOENIX (AP) - A 19-year-old man faces a possible life term in prison in the fatal shooting of a 78-year-old man who was taking an evening walk in a park.
A Maricopa County Superior Court jury convicted Brandon Martin Roberts on Wednesday of first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery and possessing a firearm as a minor.
Milton Raffle was fatally wounded July 19, 2011. He was found early the next day and died at a hospital.
Roberts and a co-defendant claimed self-defense but they admitted patting down Raffle's pockets after the shooting.
Co-defendant Nadeem Alferikh is serving a 14-year prison term after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
