TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Crews with the Tucson Fire Department responded to a house fire near Irvington and Kolb Tuesday night.

Capt. Barrett Baker with TFD tells KGUN9 that there was heavy, black smoke coming from the front door of a home in the 4700 block of south Goldenrod Drive.

The Red Cross is helping the four people who were displaced because of the fire.

They have somewhere to stay, so the Red Cross is providing them food and clothing.

Baker says the fire started in the kitchen while the mother was cooking with oil. Crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading but there was significant damage to the kitchen.

A cat also died in the fire.

Crews arrived with four minutes of being dispatched and had the fire under control within 20 minutes.

The Tucson Fire Department would like to remind the public that staying in the kitchen while cooking is highly recommended. Especially while cooking with oil.
