TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - It's a 21st century way of fundraising and a modern day entrepreneur's dream. So, what's the catch?
Sunday night on 9 On Your Side at 10:00, we're looking at the craze of "crowd funding."
On one web site – Kickstarter – it's fairly simple. You basically pitch your idea and people donate to help make your project happen.
One duo in Tucson is creating a cafe and brewery downtown using the tens of thousands of dollars they raised in just a month.
“That’s the beautiful thing about the Kickstarter crowd funding -- was that you sell people on your idea and they get behind it because they want to be a part of it,” entrepreneur Mike Gura told 9 On Your Side. “They believe in what you're doing.”
But what if you donate to a project and it never starts? Can you get your money back? What do you need to know before donating?
This 9 On Your Side investigation airs Sunsday night at 10:00.
