TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Pima County Deputies responded to the San Xavier district Wednesday night to a car accident where a 55-year-old man died.
Deputy Tom Peine tells KGUN9 that two vehicles crashed at the intersection of Tetakusim Road and Sorrel Lane at about 7:15 p.m.
Investigators responded and learned that an SUV was heading eastbound on Tetakusim and didn't stop at a stop sign.
A sedan going southbound on Sorrel collided with the SUV in the intersection.
Witnesses told deputies that once the SUV came to rest, four people climbed out and a pickup truck then came to the scene and started loading what appeared to be marijuana bales into the truck.
At least two of the four got into the truck and left.
The other two occupants were still at the scene when deputies arrived. One was seriously injured and airlifted to a local hospital while the other, Robert Carrasco Gamez, was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the sedan was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
A further investigation of the SUV revealed a burlap pack with marijuana inside, but the investigation is ongoing.
