Copper theft victim: "Don't understand how somebody could do something bad like this"

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Complete shock, that is how Jay Amin and his wife Trupti, owners of Arizona Motel and Trailer Park say they feel after a thief or thieves ransacked several of their mobile homes over the weekend -- looking for copper.

"They took out ceilings, they took out walls, see that there's an outlet here, and there's a second outlet. Just to steal that wire they broke all the dry walls," Jay Amin said while showing us the empty mobile home.

He says electrical wires had also been cut from eight of his 26 mobiles homes.

"They cut all the electrical wires, the main wire going into {the} trailer and all the wires are gone, and each wire is approximately costing $250-500 a piece," he said.

But this isn't the first time this has happened. Amin says since he bought the property back in 2009, he's had several break-ins.

"Where is the safety? I don't understand in this bad recession time, how are we going to survive in this country, especially in this city. I don't understand what to do," Amin said. "One by one, looks like I'm going to lose everything."

He says the community isn't doing enough to crack down on criminals.

"I'm going on the streets and fighting with people, they're taking out one knife, I'm talking out two knifes," he said.

And he says he will fight until something is done.

"This is the United States of America, safe country, anywhere you put your step, you should be safe," he said.
