TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A neighbor helps deputies take down a burglar after he was caught on security tape.
Coconino County sheriff's responded to a residence in the Cosnino Subdivision, east of Flagstaff off of Interstate 40, on Friday, January 11, according to Gerry Blair with the Coconino County Sheriff's Department.
The owner of the home called 9-1-1 to report that an unknown person entered his home while it was unoccupied and took several sports collector items, Blair said.
A week later, on Friday, January 18, the same homeowner called 9-1-1 to report a second burglary at his home. Following this incident, the homeowner told deputies that a firearm was taken, according to Blair.
Following these incidences, the homeowner installed a security system, and on Tuesday, January 22, the homeowner came home to find that his house had once again been burglarized, Blair said. The homeowner checked the security tape and realized that he had captured a man taking a laptop and a twelve-pack of soft drinks from the home.
Later that day, following the third incident, the homeowner showed the security tape to a friend and the friend recognized the person on the security tape as a man who lived in the homeowner's neighborhood, Blair said. Then, as the homeowner's friend was getting into his vehicle to leave, he witnessed a man walking down the street who looked similar to the man seen in the security tape, according to Blair.
The homeowner's friend called to the man and asked him if his name was Ethan and the man replied,"yes." The homeowner's friend then jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to restrain Ethan until deputies could arrive on scene, Blair said. Ethan resisted, but was unable to escape.
Once deputies arrived on scene, the discovered the man to be 22-year-old Ethan Manning. Deputies issued a search warrant on Manning's home and found the laptop, the twelve-pack of soft drinks and the handgun.
Manning was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree residential burglary while armed with a handgun and one count of felony theft and one count probation violation on an original charge of residential burglary.
