TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson firefighters responded to an explosive building fire Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to a building fire in the 1800 block of north 9th Avenue just before 9:00 a.m. Friday, according to Capt. Barrett Baker with the Tucson Fire Department.
Witnesses say they also heard explosions coming from near the fire, Baker said.
Once on scene, firefighters discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from a unit in a commercial strip center. Just as crews were approaching the fire, a large explosion blew the top half of a roll up door off, according to Baker.
Crews worked quickly and cautiously to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring units. The fire was under control in just under 30 minutes, Baker said.
The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation, but firefighters do know the unit was being used for personal storage.
