TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - While most of us were sleeping just after 2:00 am Thursday, Tucson police say one man was very busy as he drove from store to store to store, armed and looking for money.

Sergeant Chris Widmer with the Tucson Police Department said the armed robber went on a spree that lasted five hours.

"We got our first robbery at the 3300 block north country club at a quick mart," Widmer said. "We had an armed robbery there...suspect description vehicle description, and it continued out throughout the night until about 7 in the morning."

It stopped at a Chevron on First Avenue and Wetmore Road, but the thief made an appearance at nine other convenient and drug stores all over Tucson.

Investigators say he robbed seven businesses, but witnesses reported seeing him at two others that were not hit.

Police took a proactive approach and began warning stores.

"This morning, when we began calling convenient stores and warning them," Widmer said. "Some of these clerks were on the look out, and two of them were able to prevent it by knowing this person was out there."

Police first began their search in the areas where the initial robberies took place, but when they realized that this robber was on a spree, police took immediate action and put all officers on alert.

They want to public to be on alert as well.
