PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say officers discovered a 5-year-old boy was in a car after officers fired at the vehicle when its driver twice accelerated in the direction of officers.
Sgt. Trent Crump says the motorist evaded a traffic stop that officers attempted late Monday night when the motorist appeared to be driving while impaired.
Crump says officers later shot at the car and killed the driver after the car struck a brick wall at a residence and then tried drive off - first in one direction toward officers and then in another direction toward a different officer.
Crump says the boy discovered in the car was unhurt.
No identities have been released.
