PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Maricopa County sheriff's deputy has been shot during a traffic stop in Peoria.
Police in the Phoenix suburb say that the deputy was injured early Tuesday and that the suspect then drove to a desert area.
Sheriff's deputies and police officers later found the suspect dead in the vehicle nearby.
The officer's condition was not immediately known. Peoria police referred questions about the deputy's condition to the sheriff's office, which did not answer calls early Tuesday.
The shooting comes a day after a Phoenix police officer was shot and wounded as he approached a man on a bicycle.
